mijo feo "Mixo Mijo"

The only thing I can really give to anyone on this day of thanks.
A mix of some of my stuff.
Hope you enjoy.
It's pretty.
Sometimes somber.
Sometimes light-hearted.
Always punk.

CICCONE YOUTH "THE WHITEY ALBUM"

This album tripped me out the first time I listened to it.
I really didn't get it. (Once again, I was 13)
Turns out by the time I was 20 I was hooked on this album.
Sometimes all you need is a lil' time to pass.
Personnel:
Sonic Youth, Mike Watt and J Mascis.
Experimenting with hip hop, drum machines, loops and the usual weird guitar tunings.
Some cool covers too.

ALEISTER CROWLEY'S WAX CYLINDERS

Early Halloween posting.
The sound, on this recording alone, is creepy as fuck.
This was recorded in the teens of the last century.

William Carlos Williams "Danse Russe"

If I when my wife is sleeping
and the baby and Kathleen
are sleeping
and the sun is a flame-white disc
in silken mists
above shining trees,--
if I in my north room
dance naked, grotesquely
before my mirror
waving my shirt round my head
and singing softly to myself:
"I am lonely, lonely.
I was born to be lonely,
I am best so!"
If I admire my arms, my face,
my shoulders, flanks, buttocks
again the yellow drawn shades,--

Who shall say I am not
the happy genius of my household?

TURZI "A"

Like my lil brother Ernie said, "France is three years ahead of us...".
Something along those lines anyway.
I have to agree with him on this one. Even though this album sounds like it could have came out in '85.
Turzi are 5 piece band of the electronic type.
To me its kinda Tangerine Dreams meets Ennio Morricone meets "Surf Bat" (sometimes).
I really like this album.
Check it.

DOUBLE POST!!! "VAMPYROS LESBOS" and SOLEDAD MIRANDA

When I was a teenager I would record tape after tape of my favorite DJs playing their whole sets either on Kspc or Kucr. One night in particular, one of them was playing all funk and break beats. Mostly instrumentals.
I remember this night clearly.
1998. It was a cold autumn night in my lil apartment in San Berdo. Luz had just left so I sparked a bowl and was ready for bed. (Last days of high school) The jams were getting down on my radio so I popped a tape and pressed record. One after another the songs kept getting better and better. This DJ was a beast that night. A little under an hour into the set and I flip the tape over and start recording again. At this time the song that I have posted under these words started to play. By the time the song was coming to an end I was up out of my bed jumping up and down on the floor in utter hilarity and disbelief that that song had just played! And I recorded it! It was mine!!!
Unfortunately the tape stopped recording before the DJ gave out the songs name and artist.
Forward to 2007.
I'm in my lil apartment in Rialto on a cold windy autumn. On the couch watching a hot weird foreign flick called Vampyros Lesbos on IFC on a late Saturday night /early Sunday morning. When all of a sudden the same song I listened to and recorded that one night back in the day was playing on my t.v.!
Rejoice!!!
I typed "Vampyros Lesbos Soundtrack" on google and found it on amazon. Bought it for like 5 bucks and it came in the mail next week.

Mystery solved.

About a year ago I was watching it again with a homegirl of mine and noticed that she looked just like the lead actress. Interested, I start looking into this very beautiful actress. You know... try to find out what else she's been in. I find out that she basically died the same year this film was released!

Love.

"RUN FOR THE FUCKIN' HILL!!!!"

Dream:
A big house somewhere in Europe it seems. Its a winter evening. Snow everywhere. There is a nice sized hill as a backyard for this place. Seems like a resort in the Swiss Alps. This is a massive house. There are probably about 500 people. But these aren't the people you would expect to see here. More like trouble makers you would find in a fucked up apartment complex in Fontana, Ca. But a variety nonetheless. I see suits, shorts, maintenance jumpers, etc. There is a guy in a wife beater with a ghetto blaster bumping some old school. This place is home.

James and I are young teenagers. Running in and outside the structure. Playing, laughing and having a good time. Innocence. On our way out of the main entrance door we smash into Thurston Moore and drop his guitar case. We apologize and ask him to play something for us. He says no because he was in a hurry to go play a show. His band was gonna open up for a My Bloody Valentine. He gives us two passes for the show and turns around and heads for the bathroom. With excitement, we give each other a high five and step outside.

That's when the zombies appear!

We look at each other and then down to our hands. Oh yeah! Now we have baseball bats! We start swinging at the now close zombies and blood starts splashing everywhere. One from the left, one from the right, one in the front, one in the back. I scream out, "We're the best zombie killers in the whole world!". And that's when I slip. The undead move closer to me as I lay on the floor. With fright I go for my bat but its just out of reach. I let out a "HOLY SHIT!!!" as they start to reach for my brains when James comes from behind them and starts whacking heads! Zombie blood falls all over my face and I start to laugh. James picks me up and we commence with the zombie killing. More and more keep coming and we eventually get pushed back toward the door of the house. That's when Thurston Moore opens the door and grabs us by our shirts and says, "RUN FOR THE FUCKIN' HILL!!!"...

I don't remember anything after that.

Now in Technicolor!!!

The Second Dimension

As it turns out... I don't just love music. Retro future, the female form, IDEAS, etc, etc. I love things like these. Dreams... I could use this page as an outlet for them too. Who will read/listen isn't a concern so much as an invited guest. More a mystery than the statue looming. Makes it more romantic anyway. As long as its a lexicon for easy access.

Jokes!!! (Those are good too.)

Point being that a variety of post rather then just the musical ones of yesterday will be displayed here from now on. Things are changing. For the better I hope. Hopefully questions will be answered and vice versa. And at a slower pace than that of a facebook or twitter.

Another hope for thought. And another for discussion! (That would require comments on your behalf.)

Hey. Its been about a year.

I've been sharing some of my favorite tunes with you for a lil over a year now.
I know its technically stealing but you know what? This music industry has to go down. Revert to zero. Musicians should make their money by traveling and showcasing their songs through the artist to live audience format. Besides... it's more romantic that way.
Then again...
Eh.
Whatevs.

POSITION PARRAELLE "S/T"

Really good French electronic music.
This one came out in 2007.
They just simply play it right.
Its as if Depeche Mode would have stuck to their early sound and said, "Let's be a one dimensional band. Lets stick to this sound and only this sound. Oh yeah... lets sing in French now."
Kinda.

COCTEAU TWINS "HIGH MONKEY MONK"

In my book, one of the best songs ever made.
I described it as "Ethereal Bollywood" and got the thumbs up from a buddy so I guess that works.
It originally came out on their box set in '93 or so.
You can't really find it anywhere else.
Oh yeah you can... HERE!

HEART THROB "PERPETUAL INCONTINENCE"

This is the band that I'm in.
It started off (for me) as just coming in to do vocals on an unfinished demo for some friends band that was basically over.
The outcome was pretty cool so we decided to give it a shot as a live band as is.
Brian on drums, Eric on bass and me on guitar and vocals.
We played like this for about a year and half.
I eventually got tired of singing and playing and wanted just to focus on guitar, so we started looking for a singer.
Two or three dudes later I remembered that my lil brother had a good voice so i gave him a call and we got this recording.
This is the quick version of the story.
Story is different though different eyes, obviously.

THE RENTALS "RETURN OF THE RENTALS"

This one is for James out in the land of wines and pretty stuff.
No more Weezer.
Matt Sharp finds a Moog in a dumpster.
This bomb album comes from that find.
Sorta.

SOCIAL UNREST "COMPLETE STUDIO RECORDINGS VOL.2"

I put Vol.2 up here because "Before the Fall" is in my top 3 punk albums of all time.
It's in this collection.
There aren't many perfect albums in my book.
Swirlies "They spent their wild youthful days in the glittering worlds of the salons" is definitely one.
My Bloody Valentine "Loveless" another.
"Before the Fall" is right up there with them.

ENEWETAK "GUNS. ELVIS LOVED THEM."

Ok.
This has to be my favorite lp that came out of the O.C. in the 90s.
This shit was brutal back in the day.
(Racist/Ignorance Alert)
It's funny... I think of white kids from the O.C. having no major problems.
I mean shit... they have the beach, at the most, 15 minutes away!
Why would any of them be mad?
Well, these dudes were pissed!
At least on wax.
'Cause at their shows they seemed like the happiest dudes in between songs.
I miss those shows.
The song I've posted here makes it obvious that they were big fans of Neurosis (Souls at Zero).
Even though its a clear bite its my favorite song.

Guns. Elvis loved them.

DEVIATED INSTINCT "RE-OPENING OLD WOUNDS"

Another one for Graves.
Toughness!
This is that O.G. shit.

Welcome to the Orgy

ADAM FRANKLIN & BOLTS OF MELODY "I COULD SLEEP FOR A THOUSAND YEARS"

Wow!
This is so fuckin' good.
First song reminds me of Dino Jr.
Second song reminds me of Sonic Youth (Washing Machine era).
The thing is... a lot of these songs remind of bands that i love, but they're their own thing too.
(Huh?)
I think I like this better than Swervedriver.
Besides, I think this is the best album cover ever.
Click on it.
I think it gets bigger.
Its the shit.
